My First Moleskines

I’ve had a million and one journals throughout the years, some used, others not so much. But I’ve never had a Moleskine. I’m not anti-Moleskine or anything, but I do have a preference for more decorative journals, you know: flowers, stripes, faux leathers. I’m pretty sure price was probably a slight factor too since they are a little on the pricey side.

However, this weekend I set out for Barnes & Noble, specifically to purchase the “The Legendary Notebook of Hemingway, Picasso, and Chatwin.” I’m currently working on some personal and business projects that will require quite a bit of note taking at home and on-the-go, and I thought the small 3 1/2×5 1/2 Moleskine journals would be the perfect fit. This would also be the perfect opportunity to see what all the hype is about when it comes to these journals.

After purchasing the set of 3 ruled journals on yesterday (for $7.95), I finally got around to opening them today to check out their construction and interior. And after a brief look, I must admit there’s not very much to look at. However, I do love their lightweight feel and size. I was also surprised to find that the binding is stitching, as opposed to glue, which is really convenient for spreading the journal out and smooth writing.

Other than my name, I haven’t written in them yet, but I am looking forward to the experience. And although I think these will work quite well for my needs, I don’t imagine that I’ll be giving up my other journals any time soon.

How about you? Which brand of journals or notebooks do you prefer? Do you pledge allegiance to just one or many? Let me know!
